Transition support
At BSC, we understand the importance of a successful transition from primary to secondary school. Our comprehensive transition program spans an entire year and includes:
Meet & Greet Information Evening: Meet key staff and learn more about the secondary school experience. Students will be issued some specific information as well as forms to complete on the evening.
Flying Solo Program: For students attending BSC without peers from their primary school, offering a smaller group connection before Orientation Day. Identified families will receive an invitation from the College.
Familiarisation Days: Students who would benefit from additional time to become familiar with the school and staff before Orientation Day will be invited to participate in our Familiarisation Program.
Statewide Orientation Day: All incoming students experience a day of secondary school with hands-on activities.
First Day of Term 1: Entry students attend school without older year levels present to help them settle in. They meet their PAL teacher, set up devices, and complete digital learning sessions.
Transition Camp: During Term 1, students attend the transition camp to foster friendships and confidence through team activities.
Frequently asked questions
-
During the initial stages, both parents and primary schools provide input on which class structure they believe is most suitable for each student. The transition team then determines placement based on this input and other information gathered during the process.
While we make every effort to place students with familiar peers, other factors are considered, including class structure (our main priority), primary school feedback (place with/apart from), learning characteristics, personal characteristics, and testing results.
-
PAT testing booking times were included in the Parent Survey email sent on Thursday, 9 October.
This email also contained the TryBooking link for the Meet & Greet Information Evening. If you did not receive this email, please contact the College.
-
Invitations for both programs will be sent by 23 October. If you have concerns about missing an invitation, please raise them at the Meet & Greet Information Evening on 23 October.
-
After we receive your enrolment forms, BSC will contact your student’s primary school to complete a transition form. In Term 4, once these forms are returned, we will begin scheduling meetings. Based on primary school feedback, we will then reach out to parents/carers.
Please be patient, as this process can take until the end of November. Contact us after this time if you still have concerns.
-
Invitations for Flying Solo will be emailed by 17 October. If you do not receive one after this date, please contact BSC.
-
Students are shortlisted based on transition information provided by primary school teachers and parents. Capacity is limited, and funded students are prioritised. Invitations will be emailed by 24 October.

The parent survey emailed on 9 October included a booking link for testing times. If none of the options suit, select ‘none of these are suitable,’ and we will contact you.
