Instrumental music
At Bundoora Secondary College, we believe that learning an instrument and playing music should be enjoyable and accessible to all. Our program is designed to foster concentration, self-motivation, discipline, academic achievement, and strong social connections.
BSC offers a range of exciting music opportunities. Throughout their learning journey, students can participate in performances such as evening concerts, specialist and deep learning music electives, production band, music camp, and make use of our fully equipped recording studio, two large band rooms, and practical music classrooms.
Small group music lessons are available, with 30-minute sessions timetabled during the school day. Students are placed on a rotating timetable to ensure they don’t miss the same class each week. Tuition is delivered in small groups by qualified instrumental specialists in bass, clarinet, drums and percussion, flute, guitar, keyboard, music technology, saxophone, trombone, trumpet, and vocals.
These opportunities are guided by our core principles, which shape every aspect of the program:
Inclusive
Every student participates at their own level.
All learners—regardless of ability or experience—are treated as musicians and supported to grow.
Genuine opportunities for all students to embrace new challenges and take ownership of their learning.
Affordable programs ensure access for everyone.
Experiential learning
Learning is practical and interactive.
Students learn by doing before concepts are explained.
We prioritise demonstration over explanation—show, don’t tell.
Students experience sound before learning musical symbols.
Music skills are integrated across activities.
Real-world engagement
The program begins with music that students engage with and identify with.
We focus on opportunities, engagement, and the development of authentic, lifelong skills in a purpose-built music facility.
Teachers act as activators, guiding and inspiring students.
