Student services

The wellbeing of our school community is of utmost importance to us at Bundoora Secondary College. We have a dedicated and professional wellbeing team to help our students with the services below.

Our school provides access to the Wellbeing HUB—a safe and calm space where students can take short breaks, regulate their emotions, and receive support as needed. Access is coordinated with families and health professionals, and each student’s needs are documented to ensure appropriate care. The focus is on teaching self-regulation skills and fostering a supportive environment so every student can thrive at school.

Student Services Guide

The Student Services at Bundoora Secondary College provide tailored support for students with a wide range of needs, including disabilities, developmental or medical conditions, and mental health challenges. Each student receives an individualised support plan—such as an Individual Education Plan (IEP), Health Plan, or Personal Safety Plan—developed in collaboration with families, health professionals, and school staff. Services include regular Student Support Group (SSG) meetings, HUB Mentor sessions, in-class support, and crisis management when needed. Parents and carers are encouraged to work closely with the school and external professionals to implement evidence-based strategies and ensure students have access to the right resources and community services. This comprehensive approach ensures every student receives the care and guidance necessary to thrive at school.

Access to the Wellbeing HUB during class time

We understand that some students may require additional support to manage their wellbeing throughout the school day.

Student access to the HUB during class times is determined collaboratively between parents and carers, health professionals, and BSC staff.

The arrangement is then formally documented in the student’s Snapshot which is a document all staff can refer to about a student's support requirements.

Students experiencing emotional distress or needing a short break from the classroom environment may use a HUB Exit Pass to access the HUB. This system provides a safe and calm space where students can regulate their emotions and return to learning when they feel ready. This strategy is considered a short-term intervention while the student is being taught the appropriate self-regulation skills to stay in the classroom.

Students with HUB access are expected to:

  • Exit class and report directly to the HUB, informing a staff member upon arrival.

  • Spend up to 20 minutes in the HUB using calming strategies and self-regulation tools.

  • Return to class once they feel settled and ready to re-engage with learning.

If the HUB is temporarily unstaffed, students are directed to the Front Office, where an alternate supervised space will be arranged to ensure their safety and support needs are met.

Please note: Technology (e.g. a phone, laptop or tablet) is not to be used as a calming strategy in the HUB. The focus is on mindful, screen-free techniques that support emotional regulation and wellbeing.
