Commitment to child safety

Bundoora Secondary College is a child-safe organisation that welcomes all children, young people, and their families. We are committed to creating environments where students are safe and feel safe—where their participation is valued, their views respected, and their voices help shape decisions that impact their lives.

Our child safety policies, strategies, and practices are designed to be inclusive and responsive to the needs of all children. We have zero tolerance for child abuse and actively work to identify and manage any risks of harm within our school environments.

We foster positive, respectful relationships between students and adults, as well as among peers, built on trust and mutual respect.

We take proactive measures to prevent harm and, when child safety concerns arise, we treat them with the utmost seriousness—responding promptly, thoroughly, and with care.

We give particular attention to the child safety needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students; students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds; international students; students with disabilities; those unable to live at home; children and young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and gender diverse, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+); and any students experiencing risk or vulnerability.

BSC is committed to maintaining an environment free from sexual, ethnic, religious, age-based, disability-related, bodily, and gender harassment and bullying. Inappropriate or harmful behaviour is never tolerated, and any identified instances will be addressed immediately with appropriate consequences.

Child safety is a shared responsibility. Every member of our school community plays an important role in promoting child safety and wellbeing, and in promptly raising any concerns about a child’s safety.

We are committed to regularly reviewing our child safety practices and seeking input from students, families, staff, and volunteers to inform and strengthen our strategies.
