Transition FAQs

Can I make class or friendship requests?

During the initial transition stages, both parents and primary schools provide input regarding the class structure they believe is most appropriate for each student. The transition team then determines the final placement, drawing on this feedback alongside additional information gathered throughout the transition process.

Whilst we make every effort to place students with familiar peers, several factors are considered. The primary consideration is the most suitable class structure for each student, followed by primary school feedback (including requests to place students together or apart), learning characteristics, personal attributes, and any testing undertaken.

I think I missed information on PAT Literacy and Numeracy Testing. What do I do?

Booking times for PAT testing will be sent via email early Term 4 (for November dates), along with details for the Meet & Greet Information Evening. If you do not receive this email by the end of October, please contact the school on +61 (03) 9467 1511 or bundoora.sc@education.vic.gov.au.

What if we can’t attend the allocated Literacy and Numeracy testing days?

Testing is really important in the transition process. If the available times are not suitable, select the option indicating this, and we will contact you directly to arrange an alternative.

My student receives support (high ability and/or additional needs) at their current primary school. When will I speak to someone from BSC about their needs?

After receiving your enrolment forms, BSC will contact your student’s primary school and ask them to complete a transition form. In Term 4, once these forms are received, BSC will begin setting up meetings with primary schools. Based on this feedback, we will then reach out to parents and carers. This process can take time, and may extend until late Term 4. Please be patient while we work through each transition carefully. If you still have concerns late in Term 4, please contact us.

My student is the only one from their school coming to BSC, and we haven’t received a Flying Solo invitation. What do we do?

If you’re concerned that you may have missed an invitation, you’re welcome to raise this at the Meet & Greet Information Evening or contact the school on +61 (03) 9467 1511 or bundoora.sc@education.vic.gov.au.

I think my student would benefit from the Familiarisation Days Program. How are they shortlisted?

We appreciate that transitioning to high school can be daunting, and all students could benefit from extra visits to their chosen school in advance. Unfortunately, capacity is limited, so funded students are prioritised in this process. Invitations are sent out based on a shortlist of students who would most benefit from Familiarisation Days. Students are shortlisted from the transition information provided by primary school teachers and parents via the parent survey early in Term 4.

What should my child wear on their first day?

In line with our Student Uniform and Dress Code Policy, students may choose to wear either the BSC uniform or alternative appropriate clothing. This reflects our school philosophy of student choice and empowerment. However, most Entry students feel comfortable wearing their BSC polo shirt on the first day.

What are the bus routes to BSC?

Information about transportation to school can be found here. Many families who plan to commute via public transport choose to do a practice run over the holidays to help students feel confident and prepared for their first day.

How does the canteen work?

To view our menu and place orders, please visit our online ordering system here.

How can parents get to know other families or become more involved in the BSC community?

We believe a successful education is built on a strong partnership between families and the college. You can find more information on ways to be involved here.

How do I get my Compass login? How do I use Compass?

Your Compass login is unique and confidential. You can collect your login details at the Meet & Greet Information Evening. If you cannot attend, please email us afterwards with your student’s name and date of birth, and we will provide your login details.
