Entrepreneurial Schools Program

It is with great pride and excitement that we announce Bundoora Secondary College has been chosen to participate in the Entrepreneurial Schools Project, a national initiative designed to elevate student voice, build future‑focused capabilities, and encourage young people to engage in real‑world problem‑solving!

BSC has been recognised for its commitment to contemporary, innovative learning and its readiness to support students in developing future capabilities, including entrepreneurial mindsets and leadership experiences.

Entrepreneurial learning is an approach that empowers young people to identify opportunities, solve real‑world problems, and create value for others. It integrates critical and creative thinking, innovation, collaboration, and agency, equipping students with the mindset, skillset, and toolset to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Even if students are not interested in being an “entrepreneur”, these kinds of skills open doors across all career and employment opportunities.

In a rapidly changing world of work, young people need skills that go beyond content knowledge alone. As automation and artificial intelligence reshape industries, entrepreneurial learning helps students build creativity, adaptability, problem‑solving, and confidence — skills that are uniquely human and essential for future success.

We are one of only 20 schools chosen from across Australia to be considered “an entrepreneurial school”!

 About the program

The Entrepreneurial Schools Project is a two‑year national initiative designed to accelerate student agency and contemporary learning models.

Over the next two years, the program will support BSC to further empower our students to develop the confidence, creativity, and problem‑solving skills needed to shape their own future and contribute meaningfully to their community.

Our school was chosen because student agency and effective learning are already embedded in our strategic plan — this program gives our engine room a mighty boost to help bring those plans to life.

There are five key aspects to the program:

  • Youth Council establishment and onboarding (we’re starting here!)

  • Connection to community and industry partners for authentic learning experiences

  • Practical implementation support

  • Leadership coaching

  • Educator professional development

Youth Council

Hi, I’m Damien — Leading Teacher for Applied Learning at BSC!

Carlton Blues and cricket tragic, and self‑proclaimed pickleball weapon, I spend most of my spare time either travelling somewhere new, hunting down the next great place to eat (or dessert to devour), or working on my latest side hustle. I’m firmly team cats over dogs, have a very serious sweet tooth, and probably dedicate far too much time to eating… and planning what I’m eating next. My claim to fame was doing the Single Ladies dance in front of Beyoncé while shuffling blackjack cards.

Professionally, I’m driven by one thing: creating real opportunities for students to explore their strengths, back themselves, and discover their own “superpower.” I believe every young person has something unique to offer — sometimes they just need the right platform, challenge, or nudge to realise it.

I will be supporting the creation and implementation of BSC’s Youth Council!

The Youth Council is made up of six selected students from Entry to Pre‑Grad, who come together weekly to discuss issues and problems they are observing or hearing from other students across the school. Each student must commit to the program for two years.

At weekly meetings, the Youth Council provides ideas, perspectives, and solutions to improve school culture and the wider community.

Once every three months, Youth Councils from each of the 20 schools across Australia meet to discuss shared challenges and take part in a nationwide conversation focused on solving these issues together.

At the end of the two‑year program, this work will culminate in a youth‑written national policy paper that authentically represents what young Australians need from education to be prepared for their future. The policy will highlight the impact of entrepreneurial education, student agency and voice, and innovative learning approaches on school outcomes.

BSC’s Youth Council will play a key role in shaping this important piece of work.
