Communication @ BSC

In all relationships, communication is of great importance. So too with the college/parent relationship. Bundoora Secondary College uses a variety of communication methods to ensure you are informed of all upcoming events and activities and remain aware of your child’s completion of coursework and their learning progress.

The most important information and communication portal that parents need to be aware of is Compass.

Compass is our online information and communication platform

The Compass Portal is a web-based application that will help parents access up-to-date and meaningful information about our college and your child’s progress. It is essential that you access Compass a few times a week to ensure that you have not missed out on important information.

Compass includes many different features, including the ability to:

• Monitor your child’s attendance, and enter approval for absence or lateness

• Communicate with your child’s teachers, and update your family contact details

• View Chronicle Entries about your child's engagement and wellbeing

• View your child’s timetable and the school calendar

• Monitor your child’s coursework and assessment tasks, including due dates and results

• Download and view your child’s progress and semester reports (see below)

• Book parent-teacher conferences

• Pay school fees

• View news and information posts from staff relevant to your child

• Provide parental permission for events/excursions. (Please note, if consent is not received by the due date, students will not be able to attend the respective activity)

• Update your family contact details

• Provide parental permission for events/excursions. (Please note, if consent is not received by the due date, students will not be able to attend the respective activity)

Reports

Your child will receive four reports per year comprising of two interim reports (at the end of Terms 1 and 3) and two end of semester reports. In addition, families receive fortnightly coursework completion feedback and regular progress reports which recognise student growth and success against our college values (RIGOUR, RESPONSIBILITY, RESPECT, RESILIENCE and RELATIONSHIPS). These monitoring and feedback tools are monitored closely by each students PAL teacher to ensure the college can respond if required. It is also very important to regularly discuss the feedback with your child to ensure they are on track to achieve their personal best.

Accessing Compass

Compass is accessible on any modern web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari) or by using the Compass iOS or Android apps. Search for ‘Compass School Manager’ in the store.

Every family receives a separate login to Compass which will be provided to you.
