Features of VET
  • An accredited vocational education and training program (usually over two years).

  • Enables students to complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification (e.g. Certificate II in Hospitality) and a senior secondary certificate such as VCE and/or VCAL at the same time.

  • Allows students to go directly into employment or receive credit towards further study.

  • Focuses on students developing industry specific and workplace skills.

  • A vocationally oriented school program designed to meet the needs of industry.

Subjects that can run at the Bundoora Secondary College campus include:

  • Allied Health Assistant

  • Community Services

  • Early Childhood Education

  • Music Industry

  • Outdoor Recreation

  • Sport & Recreation

Subjects that are offered at external campuses through the Northern Metropolitan Vet Cluster (NMVC) include:

  • Automotive

  • Electro-technology (career start)

  • Engineering

  • Education Support

  • Hairdressing

  • Retail Cosmetics

  • Hospitality

  • and many, many more (see the NMVC handbook for more courses.)

Students can choose a VET program as part of their VCE or VCAL programs. VET is offered to Year 10 students as an extension study. This means that students will be undertaking training in a specific vocation (examples listed above) and the VET program will give them credit at VCE Units 1-4. This training will contribute towards satisfactory completion of their VCE or VCAL and it will give them a nationally recognised vocational qualification. VET programs can contribute to the ATAR.

Enhancement of status

The study score for a VCE VET program may be counted as part of the primary four for tertiary selection purposes

Full recognition on its own terms

Based on training packages providing qualifications within the AQF.
