The transition from
primary to secondary schooling can be a difficult one and demands our full
attention. The major reason for this
is that the needs of young adolescents in the middle years of schooling, year’s
five to nine, are not best met by a major change in their schooling. Throughout
these years young adolescents need stability, safety and security, connections
to significant adults and a challenging, engaging curriculum that, taken
together, enables them to fully develop as learners.
At
Bundoora continual improvement in the management of transition is taking place.
This has involved serious constructive analysis of our practices and structures
and reflects our commitment to middle year’s reform. The result is evident in
our unique Middle Years teams approach to organising learning. There is also a
greater emphasis on sustained improvements in literacy and student engagement in
schooling.
